Apprehension and Anticipation or just plain scared and nervous?

Well I would just have to say I am feeling each one of those emotions and probably more right now as the day is coming fast (Thursday March 13) when I have knee replacement surgery.   Fear of the pain after surgery as I heal and go through the rehab at the same time.  Am I strong enough to handle it all?   What will it be like as I recover? Will everything go well?  Will I really be able to walk with less pain again?

Thankfully I can lean on the word of my heavenly Father!  As he says in the following verse, He will be with me, help me through it and strengthen me as I face this trial and any others in my life.   He IS the Great Physician.  He will be there in the surgical suite, guiding the hands of the doctors and giving them the wisdom to make the right decisions in surgery.  He will be with me through my entire recovery, nudging me along to do my best and push past the pain to have successful rehabilitation. He will guide me through it all. This verse from Isaiah was posted this morning as a verse of the day on another blog  http://togodbetheglorybettysverseoftheday.wordpress.com/2014/03/10/meditationbettys-verse-of-the-day3-10-14/ and as I reads it the words finally began to take hold of what I wanted to write in this post and the verses I wanted to share with you.  The timing of her post this morning was perfectly orchestrated by God!

Isaiah 41:10 (KJV)

10 Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.

All of my thoughts and anticipations are not fearful at all, but, in fact, they cause me to rejoice in the fact that finally I am going to be able to do things like take long walks, exercise more, and do many activities that I have had to curtail because the pain I have now will not be there.  I will have a knee-joint that will work properly rather than bone rubbing on bone!  Hooray!  For that reason I am excited to be having this surgery done quickly so I can be on the road to recovery.

There are two other verses, among so many, that I also found that give me comfort and give me confidence that all will be well.

Deuteronomy 31:6 Be strong and courageous. Do not fear or be in dread of them, for it is the LORD your God who goes with you. He will not leave you or forsake you.”

and Zephaniah 3:17 The LORD your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; he will rejoice over you with gladness; he will quiet you by his love; he will exult over you with loud singing.

These are promises from God that we can all count on!   He will not forsake us, He will rejoice and sing when we get through our trial successfully.  We just need to ask Him and keep looking to Him for our comfort.

Friends, I will be in the hospital for a few days and doubtful I will be writing any blogs but I will try to post updates when I can.  Can’t send a blogger to the hospital without a computer after all!   So glad hospitals understand these things and offer WiFi for patient use!   LOL

I ask you to keep me in your thoughts and prayers and will talk to you soon!   Have a wonderful week, filled with the Lord’s blessings!

God is My Strength – Helping a Friend

I came across this verse tonight while reading another person’s blog post  which listed multiple encouraging Bible verses, every one a real blessing as always.   This verse, however, particularly got my attention because of a conversation with a friend who came knocking on my door earlier this evening asking me to pray with her.  My friend was visibly distressed, in tears and just looked so forlorn. My heart was breaking for her.

She and i spent a little time talking about what was troubling her.  I won’t get into that out of respect for her privacy, but needless to say, it was not good at all.  She is just totally distraught, unhappy and wondering why she is even alive and has had thoughts of changing that status.  Wow!  What do I say?  How do I respond to her besides the obvious–telling her NO she cannot do that!  I reminded her of my experience with losing my son to suicide and how it feels for those of us left behind.  i told her she cannot do that to her family and those of us who love her.

As we talked I reminded her several times to lean on the Lord, to trust him; bring her trials to him; that he is her strength if she allows him to be.   He is our salvation and we need not be afraid.  He will not turn us away and in fact, will welcome us with open arms when we come to him. She assured me that she has done that; however, I also hear in her words that like the rest of us, she gives her problems to God and then takes them back again thinking she can do better.     She said she is a believer and that she is trying to live God’s plan for her but fails all the time and then punishes herself.   She is her own worse enemy (her words).

We prayed together and made sure to thank God for the blessings he has given to each of us as well as asking Him to put a hedge of protection around her, to show her the way back out of the darkness and into the light. to let her know she IS loved not just by her family and friends but more importantly, the Lord.

I know he heard the prayer and is ready and willing to take on her burdens if she will let him.   I pray that she does give it to him and lets him in.   I have been in her shoes, (not suicidal) and I know that when I turn to God and give Him  my  burdens that he has given me rest.  He has sent people into my life to be an encouragement; he has helped me to get back on the right track and He will do the same for her.

So friends I am asking tonight that you pray for my friend.  I wont give her name, again to protect her privacy but God knows who she is and what is troubling her.    l also  request, if I may, prayer for me that I can be a good friend and a good witness to her and not say or do the wrong things.   I am trying to encourage her to go to  church with me and I hope one day she will do that.  I would love for her to meet the wonderful people at my church and to know that despite any issues that she thinks  would not make her welcome , she would be very much welcomed!   My church family is full of love and kindness and loves to share it!

Edited.  note to self–Do not stay up so late writing a post!  lol   Forgot to give it a title and my proofreading was terrible!

II Timothy 1:7 For God hath not given us the spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. KJV

This is a verse I have recently committed to my memory to remind myself every day that FEAR does not need to and should not rule my life. So many fears can and do prevent us from finding the things in life we really need and want like love, new experiences, taking a chance on doing new things without fear of failure. I can speak for myself when I say how true this is.

Along with studying the book of Proverbs this month and writing down my thoughts in a journal, I am also starting a word study on this word Fear in my Bible, both negative fear which first comes to mind, but also the positive things in the word Fear, such as Fear of the Lord which actually in today’s language means respect, reverence and awe. Not a scary thing at all in that usage of the word.

I look forward to this word study along with my study of Proverbs daily to put my fears in their proper perspective, to rid myself of the fears that prevent me from going forward in my life. I look forward to sharing what I learn from this venture and to translate what I learn into positive actions in my life.
