For some time I have been pondering this question – God Can You Hear Me? I prayed for answers to that question because despite my faith, it seemed I was not getting any answers, or at least not getting the answers I wanted to hear. I was restless, depressed, so sure I had been forgotten by Him. In reality, God was trying to get my attention and still is working on getting it and keeping my attention focused on him.

God has many ways of getting our attention–making us restless is one of them. I listened to part of a sermon this evening and read the rest by Charles Stanley in which he talked about God getting our attention. Making us restless is the simplest way for him to get our attention and he said when we feel that deep restlessness, the best thing to do is to pray and ask God–“What are you trying to tell me?” God also gets our attention in other ways as well: He puts people in our lives at just the right time who unknowingly bring us messages from the Lord by way of encouraging words to help us in our walk with the Lord. He also will bless us in an unusual way from time to time, usually with something to do with our health, work, home life, etc. Fourth, he sometimes gets our attention in an unpleasant way, with a NO answer to our prayers. He has many other ways as well to get our attention. Whatever way he chooses though, he does so with love for us.

As I have gone through a few trials over the past couple of years with circumstances in my life, God has certainly seemed to use all of the above mentioned methods to get my attention! He has placed many people on my path who have all been an encouragement and a blessing, supportive of me in different ways. A couple of those friendships were sadly to be short-lived or seem so anyway, but others are ongoing friendships. Each has made a definite impression on me. Because of the encouragement and prayers of many, I have started to grow closer to God, being in His word more, had the courage to ask for help and guidance in my walk with the Lord, and in resolving some issues that have held me back for a very long time. With all of these things I am listening for what message God is giving me; what plans he has for my life; his guidance and love.

I was reminded of these verses from the Bible that I heard very recently in a sermon. They all are reassurances that yes GOD HEARS YOUR CALL! Knowing that brings me great comfort and reassurance that I am never alone; God is always walking with me, loving me, leading me and protecting me and that he has the perfect plan for my life if I open my heart and mind and listen for it.

Jeremiah 29 11-13
11 For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.
12 Then shall ye call upon me, and ye shall go and pray unto me, and I will hearken unto you.
13 And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.

Jeremiah 33:3 – Call unto me and I will answer thee and show thee great things and mighty things, which thou knowest not.

Psalm 50:15 And call upon me in the day of trouble: I will deliver thee, and thou shalt glorify me.

II Timothy 1:7 For God hath not given us the spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. KJV

This is a verse I have recently committed to my memory to remind myself every day that FEAR does not need to and should not rule my life. So many fears can and do prevent us from finding the things in life we really need and want like love, new experiences, taking a chance on doing new things without fear of failure. I can speak for myself when I say how true this is.

Along with studying the book of Proverbs this month and writing down my thoughts in a journal, I am also starting a word study on this word Fear in my Bible, both negative fear which first comes to mind, but also the positive things in the word Fear, such as Fear of the Lord which actually in today’s language means respect, reverence and awe. Not a scary thing at all in that usage of the word.

I look forward to this word study along with my study of Proverbs daily to put my fears in their proper perspective, to rid myself of the fears that prevent me from going forward in my life. I look forward to sharing what I learn from this venture and to translate what I learn into positive actions in my life.
